On Unplugging
Unplugging is something I've continuously struggled with. I have never successfully unplugged. Never. It's been a goal of mine, though, for at least the last year. To delete every social media app from my phone. To rewire my brain and kick the habit of needlessly consuming useless information and gossip. My first stride towards another unplugging attempt was to turn off my notifications. Rough? No, actually. I'm constantly behind on conversations with those who I typically talk to online, but it was an easy "loss" to take. While I know I'll never not have or need social media due to having an online-based business, taking conscious breaks from the phone and laptop throughout the day has helped me regain focus in areas that don't involve technology at all, and I'm proud of that gain.
My goal is simple: I want to use electronics (specifically social media), but not NEED it. As I said on Instagram over the weekend, I'm a recovering chronic procrastinator, and leaving things undone because I was so consumed with social media had definitely gotten old. So little by little I've backed off my casual internet browsing and now use it as a reward for completing the tasks that I've set for myself for that day.
My values are changing. Evolving, actually. My goals, future and plans to reach them have taken precedence over seeing what The Shade Room is talking about. I'm doing as Myleik Teele said, and editing my life. It's hard but oh, so worth it.
Have you ever struggled with unplugging? Do you struggle now? What did you do to break the habit? Let me know in the comments.
