5 (Not So) Scary Movies for the Kids

I love scary movies, but as a mom, I want to enjoy Halloween movies with Jordan, and sometimes I just don't want the crap scared out of me! If you have kids or are a kid at heart, here are some of my favorite movies to get you in the Halloween spirit minus the gore and jump scares.

Hocus Pocus

By far my FAVORITE movie of all time! Telling the tale of the Sander sisters who are accidentally resurrected after 300 years and the chaos they cause 3 kids and an immortal cat, this movie is full of great songs, laughs and a whole lot of heart.

Nightmare Before Christmas

In my opinion, this movie has the best collection of songs out of any movie on this list. It blurs the lines between Halloween and Christmas in a beautiful story about finding your place in your world and appreciating that place.

Beetlejuice

Whatever you do, DON'T SAY HIS NAME 3 TIMES! This classic is about a couple who dies and hires Beetlejuice to scare the new homeowners out of their home. OF COURSE, nothing goes as planned and what we end up with is a great movie full of laughs and hilarious Claymation special effects (hey, it was 1989).

The Addams Family

This 1991 classic is about the strange, somewhat scary family of Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsly, Grandmama, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Cousin Itt, and everyone's favorite living hand, Thing. When they are targeted by a two con artists because of their vast wealth, they must band together to protect their family above all.

Edward Scissorhands

This movie tells the story of a man name Edward who was created by an old man who unexpectedly dies before finishing Edward, leaving him with long scissor-like blades for fingers, and the sweet Avon lady who welcomes him into her home and family, and the love he develops for their daughter played by Winona Ryder.

I can't wait to show some of these movies to Jordan this year! These movies will always carry a special place in my heart because are the movies from my childhood. Have you shown your kids any of these yet or will you be showing them this year? What are some of your favs? Let me know in the comments!
