On Appreciating Life NOW
I love to document almost anything. A moment in time. Something that, to some, might seem insignificant. Things that are deeply personal. Something that may seem mundane to one and profound to the next. In the words of Tracey Clark, "Elevate the everyday".
Photography helps me to focus. Pay attention. Really actually see. It forces me to use the creativity I've always had but never developed to its fullest potential in my younger years.
Good grief, I make myself sound like someone's grandma haha,
Because I moved around so much as a kid, I've unknowingly approached most things in life perpetually with one foot out the door, always waiting for the next adventure, all but ignoring my present. So now that I've realized that I've missed out on so much by always having my mind and eyes on the next thing, I'm seeing just how important the everyday "boring" times are. For me, it's about cherishing my son's simple moments like the joy he gets from dancing to his current favorite song and when he uses our rug as a blanket. Those are the memories that soon will be forgotten, but the most cherished to be able to relive through photographs.
So that's my goal; do what my future self will be eternally grateful for. Document the simple moments I may or may not always love now, that will eventually fade into a distant memory to be loved forever.
When's the last time you really looked at everything you have around you? We go to work, go out with friends, binge watch shows on Netflix, raise children, etc, but do we appreciate the magnitude of the blessings we've experienced in every one of those moments? My goal is to eventually be able to say without hesitation, YES.
Talk to you soon!
